Holographic paper was selected - a paper which has a surface that appears animated, as it pans from side-to-side. One could argue the objective was to get the artworks off the flat paper - out of the flat screen - and to give them an essence of existence in more than two dimensions. It was a simple addition that really lifted those early prints, and a blending of print mediums that created something new and unique.įollowing on from this, VEXX experimented with special-effect papers, searching for other avenues to give his prints depth and movement.

This gave the prints a new element of interest, as if small windows into another world had been added to the experience of the work. We achieved this by embellishing the giclées with screenprinted metallic inks, covering selected areas of the artwork. The giclée medium was a perfect solution for capturing the finesse of his work, and yet VEXX sought a way of adding tactility and dimension to the prints.

His style is undeniably colourful and bold, almost primary in its appeal, yet the work is full of highly skilled nuance, his hand unmistakably present in the subtle blending of one extraordinary colour palette after another. When we started working with Vexx, his objective was simply to make prints of his art. It’s one of those artist/printer relationships that is not only exciting, because of that energy I mentioned in the opening paragraph, but also progressive, as VEXX is an artist always asking “what new thing can be done?”, both of himself and us. It’s been our pleasure to work with VEXX for over a year, producing a string of limited art editions, here in the White Duck Editions studio. Sold Out, I might add, and perhaps unsurprisingly, as VEXX is an artist full of excitement and enthusiasm, with abundant energy in his work, and his art is loved by his fans for, among other things, its playfulness and eye-popping use of colour. This is also a first for us, in that Upset the Rhythm and M’lady’s will beĬo-releasing this mini-album (UTR handling distribution for the UK and Europe, and M’lady’s overseeing things in the USA).Blending Realities is a new art collection by Belgium-based artist VEXX. Pushing forward, thinking harder, striking home. Each song is a maelstrom, whipping band and audience alike into a whirlwind.
Meanwhile, Mike and Corey’s guitar and drum fireworks have left almost all spectators breathless (note: bass guitar duties on this recording were handled by Aaron, who has since been replaced by the very capable and excellent Ian). She’s such a force of nature as a frontwoman that you’re left stunned as much as amazed. Maryjane’s lyrics and vocals are a clarion call of intent on fire with possibility, whilst wrestling with the power of everything.

VEXX also know how to write a powerful slow burner, as evidenced by ‘Strength’ and the first half of ‘Ocean Shores’. The song captures the band perfectly, raging headlong with unmatched momentum. ‘Clairvoyant’ is equal parts jagged as inventive, twisting out of reach at all the right moments. Through the first three songs on side one with a fury rarely seen in the VEXX hit the ground running like punk hasn’t happened yet! Blazing The very excellent Jason Ward (of Chicago Mastering Service) has since worked his magic re-mastering the recording, and now it’s even more wild and vibrant than ever. HYSTERICS 7”s issued on M’lady’s), this record originally came out in a small edition on the Grazer label late last year, which sold out instantly just through word of mouth. Recorded by esteemed engineer, Dave Harvey (who also recorded both Their self-titled mini-album is explosive, vital, and many leagues deeper than it has any right to be in this wicked epoch. VEXX, living in and playing out of Olympia, Washington, have been devastating the Pacific Northwest music hubs for the last year now.
